HSS Challenge #61 – Shadow Box Technique – “Friends”

Hello Every0ne!

This week’s Hand Stamped Sentiments challenge is a Shadow Box Technique.

Hmmmmmmmm…….now I really had to get my “thinking cap” on for this technique.   So I went to Splitcoast Stampers to get some help.  There are many versions of this technique; so here is my project/card — I hope you like it.

I tried really hard to use images other than flowers and/or birds.  And I had picked a couple of stamp sets that would have done the job.   But this past week and weekend, I have been blessed with calls and visits from friends.

If you look up the definition of Friendship, it is defined as a form of interpersonal relationship generally considered to be closer than association.  Hmmmm…. it’s more than that.  When someone gives you their friendship, it is a special gift.  Like a garden, you have to nurture and take care of that friendship so that it will grow and last forever.  Like the different flowers in your garden, each one is different and special.  And what joy each one gives you and each has a special place in your heart because you value that special friendship.

I came across a Stampin’Up! set in the catalog (“The “Nicest Things”) that has a stamp with a great phrase “A friend is one of the nicest things you can have and one of the best things you can be — Douglas Pagels”. Isn’t that cool!

This past week, I got to chat and/or spend time with some friends.  I have been fortunate to catch up with old high school friends, dear friends from California & also Stampin’Up! sisters (Hi! Evey, Lily & Noreen), my new stamping friends (Sandra & Ruth Ann), the HSS Design Team who are also my Stampin’Up! sisters who I’ll get to stamp with some of the ladies this week (Gen, Anne Marie, Amy & Erin — I’ll see you this week — YEA!!!) and my cousins Liz & Sandy who are like my kid sisters and new stampers.  I always wished that I had a sister, but you know, I have lots them.

So this was the impetus to my creating the “Friends” shadow box card — which is now going to framed & hung on the wall.  Yep! I’m really blessed.

HSS Challenge #60 – Blooming Blossoms

Hello!   This is a great week for me!!!  It’s “Dancing with the Stars” time as well as “American Idol”.  So it also means that I will be in my craft room with my TV on watching my favorite shows and stamping.   “Pride and Prejudice”,
“Emma”, “Sense & Sensibility” and “Persuasion” (all movies based on Jane Austen’s books) have been put away for this season.

This week’s challenge at Hand Stamped Sentiments is Blooming Blossoms.  My task was to create a gift set.  So here are two ideas — both quick and easy.

The first is a Soap & Toothbrush Dispenser set.  I had purchased the “stampable” dispensers many years ago at a rubber stamp convention — 10 years ago to be exact.  I guess I was just waiting for the right project to come along as well as the right Designer Series Paper (Greenhouse Gala) to inspire me to finally use this set and create.

The second item is also a quick and easy project — a desk set with matching pen.   I actually had this on my desk, so I decided to upgrade it by changing the pattern.    What makes this a real quick and easy project, is that I used the Stampin’Up! Greenhouse Gala DSP and cardstock.  No stamping involved at all!!!   I love using the punches so I took the opportunity to use the Scallop Trim Punch to embellish.   If you’re wondering what do to for a Hostess set, this is a great idea!!!

I hope these ideas will help you.  Thank you for dropping in and visiting my site.   Have a wonderful week!!!

HSS Challenge – Spring Inspiration – Happy Birthday card

Hello Everyone!

Well with the new time change this past Sunday, it’s just Mother Nature’s way of letting us all know that Spring is will be coming soon.   I’m certainly having a slight difficulty getting adjusted to the time; however if this is my worst problem — then I’m really having a great life.

My apologies for not posting sooner.   This week’s Hand Stamped Sentiments challenge is Spring/Easter Inspiration.  I chose to do a card with flowers.   So here is my card for this week.  I hope you enjoy it and if you do, please drop me a note.

If you’re wondering where the Cherry Cobbler frame came from, well it’s from the Sizzix Lattice Frame Die.   I was going to use the Lattice Die itself, then I noticed the cardstock and realized that it looked like a frame.   I’ll use the Lattice die for another future project.  The stamp set is the Herb Expression.  I used Cherry Cobbler and Blushing Bride cardstock and ink pads.

Have a wonderful week.

HSS Challenge – “Go Green” #58

Hello Everyone!

This week’s Hand Stamped Sentiments Challenge is:

I made a notepad this time instead of a card.   As I was creating this notepad it brought back memories of when I lived in Honolulu, Hawaii — many, many years ago.   Now in Hawaii we celebrated many holidays — so I was very surprised that St. Patrick’s Day was taken very seriously.    It wasn’t just the decorating and wearing some green.  It went beyond that.  People came to work dressed in costume.   We had a “best dressed” costume contest, “best decorated” office area and “Best Green” dish.   There was a parade and the main menu (of course) was Corned Beef and Cabbage served at most restaurants; and definitely you had better made sure you made a reservation somewhere in order to get lunch and/or dinner.   The streets were closed at the end of the work day.  There were bands playing great music, dancing in the streets, and lots of beer being served.  There was lots of good fun and great memories to last.

To me, the best part of this celebrated day was the fragrance of all the flowers, especially the carnations, that were made into those beautiful gorgeous flower leis.  WOW!  I can still remember the fragrance.  AND!! gifts — we gave each other gifts for St. Patrick’s Day!!    I baked zucchini bread to give as gifts.  I shopped for a green printed mumu and green shoes to wear.  My friends and I would gather together to make our carnation leis (dyed green of course) — all in preparation for March 17th — St. Patrick’s Day!

So tonight as I made my “Go for the Green”  Notepad (and watched Hawaii 5-O), I thought of Honolulu, Hawaii and the good times I shared with my dearest friend Roberta whom I’ve known for many years.  Roberta & her husband, Bob,  live in Honolulu in a beautiful home up on the hills which has the most beautiful view of Diamondhead and the Pacific Ocean.  So Roberta will be receiving this notepad.  It’s not much but the verse is special because I am truly blessed and “Lucky” to know her as my dearest friend.  Here is Roberta’s St. Patrick’s Day gift.

Thank you all for visiting my site.  As I post every week, I get a little better at posting and my “Blog” impaired status gets less and less.  This is still all new to me — but it is the new millennium so I have to get with the new program so I won’t be in the “so yesterday” status.  Cheers and Stamping Hugs to you all.

HSS Challenge #57 – “SO INTO YOU” Color Theme

Hello Everyone!   I hope you all had a great “Oscar” weekend.  I’m so happy Colin Firth (aka Mr. Darcy of “Pride and Prejudice”) won the award for best actor.

Before I get stared, I want to give Krystal of Krystal’s Cards a long overdue heartfelt THANKS. Krystal contacted me to let me know that one of my cards was selected as one of her Sunday Favorites.  It was the “Thinking of You” card with the bird nesting on the pocket.  This card was posted at Hand Stamped Sentiments Challenge #55.  WOW!  I was so touched, honored and pleasantly surprised.  It’s like winning an “Oscar” for stamping.  She made my day.  I couldn’t stop smiling.   So Krystal, Thank You So much!

This week’s Hand Stamped Sentiments Challenge #57 is called “So In To You”.  The three In-Colors (Poppy Parade, Blushing Bride and Pear Pizzazz) selected are pretty colors for Spring and using either Whisper White or Very Vanilla cardstock can give your card that extra touch.  AND! what a great way to incorporate the In-Color Patterns Designer Series Paper Stack with your cards.

WELCOME BABY CARD

The “Welcome Baby” card was a fun card to create, especially since my cousin’s daughter is going to have a baby girl — I now have my baby card ready for her upcoming shower.   I wanted to try something new — finish the card completely by doing something to inside of the card.   I had stamped and cut too many Onesies, so I decided to put one inside the card.  Since the baby is a girl (yea!!!), I wanted to add a tiny bit of bling — so I added the tiny pearls from the Jewels – Basic Pearls to represent the baby button and of course, a red heart that I gave dimension by using Crystal Effects and Dazzling Diamonds Glitter.  I know this card will be a part of the baby album, so inside the card we can add a picture of the baby when she comes home.  I can’t wait to hold Alyssa Violet!!   Like my grand-daughters, there are a few words they need to learn soon — “Free Stamps”, “Sale-A-Bration”, and “Sale” — all great cost effective methods.

WELCOME TO THE NEIGHBORHOOD PORTFOLIO CARD

When I started creating this card, I wanted to use the new Framed Tulips Textured Impressions Embossing Folder from the new Occasions Mini Catalog. Since I just learned how to resize the frame, I wanted to incorporate this technique into my card.  When I finished texturizing/embossing the Whisper White cardstock, it reminded me of the paneling on the doors in the Colonial mansions or the manors in England (like Pemberly or Netherfield) during the time that Jane Austen was alive.  Okay — I admit it — I’m an “Austenite”.   So at that point, I changed my card to look like the paneled doors of a room.  I added two designer silver brads to represent door knobs.   Since I’m giving the “Welcome to the Neighborhood” card to a new neighbor who just moved into our development, I thought I would turn the inside of the card into a “mini-portfolio” and included tags and a couple of 3 x 2 note cards & envelopes.   This could also be a nice Hostess gift.  There are 3 pictures (1) front of card, (2) inside card and (3) the tags and note cards.
