HSS Challenge – “Go Green” #58

Hello Everyone!

This week’s Hand Stamped Sentiments Challenge is:

I made a notepad this time instead of a card.   As I was creating this notepad it brought back memories of when I lived in Honolulu, Hawaii — many, many years ago.   Now in Hawaii we celebrated many holidays — so I was very surprised that St. Patrick’s Day was taken very seriously.    It wasn’t just the decorating and wearing some green.  It went beyond that.  People came to work dressed in costume.   We had a “best dressed” costume contest, “best decorated” office area and “Best Green” dish.   There was a parade and the main menu (of course) was Corned Beef and Cabbage served at most restaurants; and definitely you had better made sure you made a reservation somewhere in order to get lunch and/or dinner.   The streets were closed at the end of the work day.  There were bands playing great music, dancing in the streets, and lots of beer being served.  There was lots of good fun and great memories to last.

To me, the best part of this celebrated day was the fragrance of all the flowers, especially the carnations, that were made into those beautiful gorgeous flower leis.  WOW!  I can still remember the fragrance.  AND!! gifts — we gave each other gifts for St. Patrick’s Day!!    I baked zucchini bread to give as gifts.  I shopped for a green printed mumu and green shoes to wear.  My friends and I would gather together to make our carnation leis (dyed green of course) — all in preparation for March 17th — St. Patrick’s Day!

So tonight as I made my “Go for the Green”  Notepad (and watched Hawaii 5-O), I thought of Honolulu, Hawaii and the good times I shared with my dearest friend Roberta whom I’ve known for many years.  Roberta & her husband, Bob,  live in Honolulu in a beautiful home up on the hills which has the most beautiful view of Diamondhead and the Pacific Ocean.  So Roberta will be receiving this notepad.  It’s not much but the verse is special because I am truly blessed and “Lucky” to know her as my dearest friend.  Here is Roberta’s St. Patrick’s Day gift.

HSS Challenge #57 – “SO INTO YOU” Color Theme

Hello Everyone!   I hope you all had a great “Oscar” weekend.  I’m so happy Colin Firth (aka Mr. Darcy of “Pride and Prejudice”) won the award for best actor.

Before I get stared, I want to give Krystal of Krystal’s Cards a long overdue heartfelt THANKS. Krystal contacted me to let me know that one of my cards was selected as one of her Sunday Favorites.  It was the “Thinking of You” card with the bird nesting on the pocket.  This card was posted at Hand Stamped Sentiments Challenge #55.  WOW!  I was so touched, honored and pleasantly surprised.  It’s like winning an “Oscar” for stamping.  She made my day.  I couldn’t stop smiling.   So Krystal, Thank You So much!

This week’s Hand Stamped Sentiments Challenge #57 is called “So In To You”.  The three In-Colors (Poppy Parade, Blushing Bride and Pear Pizzazz) selected are pretty colors for Spring and using either Whisper White or Very Vanilla cardstock can give your card that extra touch.  AND! what a great way to incorporate the In-Color Patterns Designer Series Paper Stack with your cards.

WELCOME BABY CARD

The “Welcome Baby” card was a fun card to create, especially since my cousin’s daughter is going to have a baby girl — I now have my baby card ready for her upcoming shower.   I wanted to try something new — finish the card completely by doing something to inside of the card.   I had stamped and cut too many Onesies, so I decided to put one inside the card.  Since the baby is a girl (yea!!!), I wanted to add a tiny bit of bling — so I added the tiny pearls from the Jewels – Basic Pearls to represent the baby button and of course, a red heart that I gave dimension by using Crystal Effects and Dazzling Diamonds Glitter.  I know this card will be a part of the baby album, so inside the card we can add a picture of the baby when she comes home.  I can’t wait to hold Alyssa Violet!!   Like my grand-daughters, there are a few words they need to learn soon — “Free Stamps”, “Sale-A-Bration”, and “Sale” — all great cost effective methods.

WELCOME TO THE NEIGHBORHOOD PORTFOLIO CARD

When I started creating this card, I wanted to use the new Framed Tulips Textured Impressions Embossing Folder from the new Occasions Mini Catalog. Since I just learned how to resize the frame, I wanted to incorporate this technique into my card.  When I finished texturizing/embossing the Whisper White cardstock, it reminded me of the paneling on the doors in the Colonial mansions or the manors in England (like Pemberly or Netherfield) during the time that Jane Austen was alive.  Okay — I admit it — I’m an “Austenite”.   So at that point, I changed my card to look like the paneled doors of a room.  I added two designer silver brads to represent door knobs.   Since I’m giving the “Welcome to the Neighborhood” card to a new neighbor who just moved into our development, I thought I would turn the inside of the card into a “mini-portfolio” and included tags and a couple of 3 x 2 note cards & envelopes.   This could also be a nice Hostess gift.  There are 3 pictures (1) front of card, (2) inside card and (3) the tags and note cards.

HSS – No Stamping Challenge “To Die For” Challenge #56

Hello All!

Okay, this week’s challenge was to use any of the Sizzix Dies that we have in the Stampin’Up! Catalog.   And what a great opportunity to use those awesome dies we have.

Dilemma: So here I have a plethora of Sizzix dies at my disposal as well as Designer Series Paper & accessories, and I have a Challenge due on Monday night.  I’ve been known to purchase a “few” dies — but which ones do I use?????????   YIKES!  I fear procrastination coming on!!   I dislike when I’m procrastinating on doing a task.  Somehow I have laundry to do,  ironing, or worst of all — cleaning the kitchen floor tiles.  Well I have you know — that I decided to cook & bake also.

Yep! I made a homemade Marinara sauce with spinach pasta — and then went on to making Cinnamon Rolls from scratch because I just knew my husband needed to have a nice dinner.  And this morning as he had his coffee and Cinnamon Roll, he mentioned how lovely the kitchen tiles looked.  He knew I was procrastinating.  OH Yeah!   Not to mention, that  I had watched 5 hours of Hawaii 5-0 (that I had taped) while doing the laundry and ironing EVERYTHING that came out of the  dryer.   While still pondering WHAT was I going to create for the Hand Stamped Sentiments Challenge.

Somehow I thought watching the shows would give me some sort of inspiration for a card.  NOT!  I went upstairs to my craft room, pulled out dies, cardstock, etc. and my DVDs “Pride & Prejudice” and “Lost in Austen”.  Ta Dum!  I knew Jane Austen would come to my rescue.   So here are my creations — hope you like them.

Thank you all for visiting my site.  I usually don’t write long blogs (well that’s not really true — I’ve been known to write “novels” for letters) — However! I’ve had 2 cups of coffee and just came back from an errand where I stopped and purchased a Latte — so I’m totally loaded with caffeine.

If you get a chance, please hop on over to Hand Stamped Sentiments and participate in their “To Die For” Challenge.  Wait till you see what my Stampin’Up! sisters have created!!!!

HSS Theme Challenge – Thinking of You Sentiment

Hello!  This week’s Hand Stamped Sentiments challenge was a little challenging.  I just could not come up with something to create.  However, I remembered that my Aunt Terry asked me if I could create a card with birds.  So Ta Dum!!!!  A “Thinking of You” card with a bird.

It was perfect because I had been wanting to use the Punch Potpourri stamp set for some time.  This set is a Level 1 Hostess set (#120124) and also one of Shelli Gardner’s Signature Collection stamp sets.   Being a collector of punches, I was able to use the matching punch (2-Step Bird #117191).

I tried to do something a little different — rather hoarding accessories (rhinestones, Designer Series Paper, etc.), I actually used them on my card. What a concept!!!  I have been known to purchase lots of accessories and not use them.  The wording “Thinking of You” is from the stamp set Three Little Words which by the way, is also one of free Sale-A-Bration stamps you can earn.  I hope you enjoy this card.

The items used were:

Stamp Set:  Punch Potpourri, Three Little Words (wording)

Cardstock:  Pink Pirouette, Certainly Celery, Whisper White, Old Olive (branches)

DSP:  In-Color Pattern Pack (Level 1 hostess item #121028) – Pear Pizzazz

Classic Inks:  Melon Mambo, Pear Pizzazz, Basic Black

Punches:  Scallop Border, 2-Step Bird, Dotted Scallop Ribbon Punch, Boho Blossoms Ex-Lg Punch

Accessories:  Whisper White Satin Organza, Rhinestones, daubers

HSS Challenge – Ribbon & Lace

These cards were created for another HSS Challenge (Hand Stamped Sentiments). Theme:  Ribbon and Lace.  Stampin’Up! has beautiful ribbons.  I had heard that the Seam Binding ribbons were hard to work with — but! to my surprise this was not the case.  The Seam Binding ribbons are so beautiful, so soft & sweet, and great to work with.  I know I’ll be getting more.

All day long, I just could not get started in creating my card for this challenge.   I only needed to create one card — but thanks to Colin Firth aka Mr. Darcy of “Pride and Prejudice”, I got my inspiration.    I thought of Miss Elizabeth Bennett and Mr. Darcy at the Netherfield Ball which was hosted by Mr. Bingly at his summer home/mansion.   And all the beautiful lace and ribbon on the gowns worn by all the ladies.  Anyway, I got carried away again and just couldn’t stop creating. Thanks to my friend Amy Lazzell, who let me use her new stamp set “Baby Blossoms”, I created the first two cards.   The first “blue” card reminds me of Mr. Darcy (his soft side and adoration for Miss Bennett).  And the second, of course, of Miss Elizabeth Bennett.  So here are my cards.  I hope you like them.

The last card is just a 3×3 note card that was actually created from scraps.  The rainbow textured portion was a small scrap from a previous card as well as the ribbons – these were scraps.  Colors of inks are:  Old Olive, Melon Mambo and Pacific Point.  The seam binding ribbons are:  Rose Red, Pear Pizzazz and Baja Breeze.  I just used daubers with same ink colors and sponged diagonal lines of color for a background and stamped the wording.

Build-A-Blossom – Thinking of You Card

This was a fun card to create for the HSS Challenge.  I’d pre-ordered the set & punch and was just waiting for the perfect time to use it.  Well, anytime is the perfect time to create with new stamps.  I love the colors (Blushing Bride, Pear Pizzazz and Early Espresso) so it was easy for me to get my stamping thinking cap on and start working.
